Well, it was a great day to be a Jets fan yesterday. It was also great seeing the fan club regulars back at Peabody’s for another season of Jets football.

With our boy Chad back in at the lineup at starting quaterback, where he belongs, the Jets opened the season on the road against the Tennessee Titans with a win. Chad looked impressive and healthy ending the day with a 123.2 Quarterback Rating and completing 24-of-33 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns to lead our Jets to a 23-16 victory.

In all, about 20 fan club members including friends and family were at Peabody’s to cheer our team. Of course being the Jets they sure didn’t make it easy on the fans. After shutting out the Titans for the first three quarters of the game and missing out on another seven points from two missed field goals and a missed extra point attempt, the Titans decided to make a game of it by scoring two fourth quarter touchdowns and converting both 2 point conversions to tie it at 16. Hearts pounded and nails were bitten as thoughts turned to “not again”. Well… Chad made sure we’d take this game home with a win taking three minutes and forty-eight seconds off the clock to march us down the field and cap it with a 12 yard TD pass to Baker.

The Titans had one more chance to tie the game and gave it a good shot. Kerry Collins took them down to the Jets 8 yard line and with 3rd and 8 missed a pass. On fourth down the Titans went for it. With just 39 seconds to go it was do or die for the Titans. The Jet Fan club was huddled around the one TV broadcasting the game and when we saw Collins pass to Scaife fall incomplete. Naturally we all celebrated with a loud J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS chant.

Of course, the day was not without its issues. While Peabody’s welcomed us with open arms, we did have a bit of Deja Vu from last year as the big screen TV that we watch the Jet games on was not playing nice with the in house satelite system. So rather than watching the game on the big screen, we all squinted and watched it on one of the smaller TV’s around the bar. We’ve been given assurances that the TV will be up and running for next weeks game. At least the drink specials rock.

All in all.. a very good day to be a Jet fan. Hope to see you next week when we take on the Patriots in the home opener.

See you at P’s

About Festa

My given name may be Steve but my friends have been calling me Festa for the last 30 years. While I really miss going to all the JETS home games and tailgating with a large group of friends, it’s really great being here in Tampa around other JETS fans while we root for our team. When I founded the fan club in October of 2004 I never imagined it would become as massive as it now has with over 600 members from around the world and sister Fan Club Chapters in 4 other Florida cities and growing.
